- For this project, I think I will use a photographic subject rather than an illustrative one. I chose this because I feel that it will work better with the type of magazine I chose to parody (a travel magazine), which are usually known for large, glossy pictures of landscapes or various people having fun in outdoor activities .
- I think that I'll use a large, simple sans-serif font, in a mix of all capitals and capitals/lowercase. To make this look more streamlined and "official", I'll probably use a typeset font, because the type of magazine cover I'm going for is more probably more "standard" design wise.
- The content my magazine will explore is that which is usually found at first glance in most travel magazines, with seemingly arbitrary yet consistently unattainable locations constantly being pitched. The "issue' addressed might be that of amazing travel ideals being shown as part of the "American Dream", i.e.. that one can afford to do these things, will enjoy themselves doing it, are able to have the time to do so, and consistently "one-up" others with it.
- For this, I think that I'll create my own made-up magazine, but with a base of a generic travel magazine. Basically, a mixture of my own magazine and a mainstream travel magazine(s).
- The creative choices/risks that I'll make to hopefully set my magazine apart with be in content (i.e.. what's in the blurbs on the cover), how the overall layout clicks together and draws attention, and maybe in colour usage depending on the photo that I choose.
Possible Headlines / Questions / Tag Lines
- (expensive) Travel
- Straight-up buy a dang island
- We alternate between tropics and snow between each winter edition
- Obligatory hiking reference
- Here's a list of 20 random European cities
Content Possibilities
- Picture: forest/hiking trail or beach (possibly from old vacation photos)
- or possibly city (Vancouver) skyline at night
- Colours: Depending on photo, cool, calm colours to evoke the "relaxation" one is supposed to find in these magazines/from their trips
- Words/Content: probably straight-up mocking of taglines found in these magazines, (ex. "Straight up buy a dang island")
